My Skincare Saviours

image

Throughout the exam period it has been impossible to continue blogging, and it’s also been very difficult to maintain a good skincare regime. Now all my exams are over, it’s back to the blog and time to give my skin some well deserved love! You’ve probably seen me talk about these products hundreds of times before, but I just love them so much… So without further ado, here are my current skincare favourites!

imageSimple Kind To Skin Sunkissed Moisture Cream:

This is definitely a summer moisturiser that I can’t live without. I recently picked this up on offer in boots and haven’t put it down since. Because I’m not a fan of the Simple Hydrating Moisturiser, I didn’t have high hopes for this product, but it sure did prove me wrong. This moisturiser has a light consistency but it also feels rich and hydrating on the skin. It is absorbed instantly leaving the face smooth and glowing, and if that’s not enough, it builds to a subtle, gradual tan that looks both healthy and natural. Love love love!

imageNeutrogena Spot Stress Control 3-in-1 Daily Cleansing Lotion:

This is definitely another product that surprised me, but for the better of course! When I spotted this product I was thinking it would be like a toner and work by drying out any areas with spots, in order to help fight them. These aren’t typically my favourite types of toner, but I decided I should buy it anyway. When I first used it, I was shocked at how smooth and hydrating it felt on my skin as it was certainly not what I was expecting! Although the tangy smell initially made me have doubts, I was surprised at how gentle it felt and it didn’t make my face sting one bit. I am super impressed with this and love to use it every night after removing my makeup, and in the mornings to make sure my face is super clean and oil free before applying any makeup.

La Roche Posay Rosaliac AR Intense:

I’ve always had rather red skin on my cheeks and along the side of my face, and although it could have been much worse, imageit did make applying makeup pretty difficult as I could never quite cover it up. I saw this moisturiser on offer in boots so decided I better get it while it was cheaper, as I’ve always been reluctant to pay full price for it! After reading mixed reviews on this product, I was a little apprehensive but it sure did not disappoint me. The formula is almost gel-like and a little goes a very long way. It glides on really effortlessly and absorbs super fast. I’ve only been  putting this product on the areas of redness around the edges of my face because I find it is not as hydrating as some of my other moisturisers, but I really don’t mind because it has improved my skin so much! And when I say that, trust me I’m not exaggerating! Before discovering this moisturiser, even foundation couldn’t cover the redness, but now I can go out wearing just powder, or even no makeup, and the redness is virtually undetectable! I know this product is not overly cheap, but it really does work, so I definitely recommend it if you are struggling with redness.

L’oréal Skin Perfection Cleansing and Perfecting Milk:

imageThis is definitely my favourite makeup remover, and they definitely weren’t lying when they put “skin perfection” in the name. This works beautifully to remove makeup, especially when used with a cotton pad, and leaves my skin feeling extremely soft and velvety smooth. My skin also looks visibly better after using this, and it glides on so well that it doesn’t pull or irritate my skin one bit. I’ve been using this every night to take off my makeup as I find it is just so quick and easy to use too!

Witch Overnight Clearing Serum:

I discovered this product when I was having a serious skin crisis and was in need of a quick fix for my spots. I would usually imageopt for a spot gel that only targets the problem area, as they usually tend to be quite drying. However, I decided to try a moisturiser in the hope that it would not only clear my skin, but keep it clear. This moisturised has done exactly that and it has surprised me that it is so moisturising at the same time. While I like to apply my redness moisturiser on my cheeks, I find this is really good to apply to my fore head and chin as this is where I tend to get any spots. I’ve really been loving this moisturiser and my skin has been looking noticeably better since using it.

Garnier Pure Active 3-in-1:

imageI love applying face masks and packs, but I rarely have time to leave them on as they just take so long to dry. And if I add in the time taken for cleansing and exfoliating, that’s easily a good 30 minutes spent on my face. During the exam season I certainly had to time for this, which lead me to fall in love with the Garnier Pure Active 3-in-1. This product is a cleanser, exfoliator and mask all in one and it does wonders for my skin. I always liketo leave it on as a mask as it only takes 3 minutes to dry, which is just amazing. The scrub doesn’t feel harsh on the skin but you can really feeling it declogging your pores, which I love. When I wash off the mask I can instantly see that my skin is visibly smoother and my pores look tighter. It also does a really good job at mattifying my face, without drying up my skin.

The Body Shop Skin Clearing Toner:image

This has been one of my staples for a while now. I love that you have to shake it to “activate” it as you can really tell that it is working. The cool feeling you get when it is applied is also another sign that it is amazing at its job. There’s not really much I can say about this toner, other than that it mattifies, refreshes and clears my skin, all while being super gentle.

Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer:image

I was very intrigued when I saw this product on the shelves so I just had to buy it. The formula is very cooling and “wet”, which may sound strange, but on the skin it is super hydrating and absorbs instantly, leaving a smooth canvas for applying makeup. I like to use this in the morning as it is very refreshing and leaves my face hydrated all day, as well as providing the perfect base for my makeup.

Malibu SPF 30 Moisturing Lip Care:image

I have both the vanilla and tropical flavours and they both smell AMAZING! I love that they both have SPF 30, making them perefct for the summer, and they are both very moisturising too, which is why the have been my favourite lip care product over the past few weeks.

Back to School Makeup Collaboration: Drugstore

I was thinking about future blog post ideas the other day, when the thought of a collaboration popped into my mind. I’m still new to blogging so I’ve never done a collaboration, but thought it looked like a lot of fun! So I brainstormed a few possible ideas and thought what better topic than Back to School! I liked the idea of doing a makeup look as a collaboration, so contacted a few o my favourite bloggers to see what they thought. That was when Maja helped me come up with the idea of Drugstore v High End Back to School Makeup. I really liked the idea and started working on the look straight away. So here it is… Enjoy!

Whether it is your first day at a new school, college or university, or you’re starting fresh for the new school year, it can be daunting. But it doesn’t have to be. Starting off the year feeling beautiful and confident will make your school experience much more enjoyable and will help to to feel positive throughout the year.

If you’re looking for an easy makeup look for school which won’t break the bank, keep reading to learn how I done my makeup, or click the image above to learn about Maja Estelle’s high end look.

Drugstore Makeup for School:

Being in school myself, I know that not everyone may be able to get away with wearing this much makeup. In my school, older students are allowed to wear more makeup than those in lower years such as year 7, who could probably just get away with a little mascara or lipgloss. Although this is still a simple look, I would say it is more aimed at people in years 10/11, college or even sixth form, where a little more makeup is allowed. If your school doesn’t allow this much makeup, feel free to only follow a few steps, for example skipping the eyeshadow or the foundation. This look is really versatile and I hope you like it!

The Base:

School means late nights and early starts, which just screams puffy eyes and dark circles. Not a good look! To de-puff and refresh your eyes, you can start with an eye gel. I like to use Boots Cucumber Eye Gel and Hydrating Eye Cream, followed by a refreshing moisturiser such as Garnier’s Moisture Match Wake Me Up Moisturiser.

You can either leave your skin bare, or if your school allows a little more makeup add some BB cream for a more radiant. Simple’s Kind to Skin Perfecting BB Cream gives the skin a healthy glow and just enough coverage for school.

For some people, this may be enough. But if you still have dark circles under your eyes or any blemishes, you may want to add a touch of concealer. I like to use the Soap&Glory Kick Ass Concealer as it comes with two shades of concealer and a setting powder. First take the peach coloured concealer and gently pat it under your eyes to cover any dark circles. Then take the other shade of concealer and apply it to any areas with spots or discolouration. You can now take the setting powder in the compact and gently pat it over the concealer to ensure it doesn’t budge all day!

Finally, to add a subtle warm glow to your face, finish with SEVENTEEN’s Cheek Stamp. Simply stamp the blusher onto the apples of your cheeks and blend out to add a flush of colour.

The Eyes:

This look uses eyeshadow, so if you are no allowed to wear too much makeup you may want to skip this step.

For this look I used my favourite palette, the MUA Undressed palette. Start off by using Rose Ash all over your lids, then take a crease brush and apply Gild along your crease with windscreen wiper motions. Then take a fluffy brush and apply Tawny in the outer corner and blend into the outer half of the crease with small circular motions. Finish by adding Puff to the corner of your eyes and the centre of your lids to brighten them.

This step is also optional, but to define your lash line and make your lashes appear thicker, take the Soap&glory Supercat Liner and draw a thin line from the centre of your lid outwards, keeping it as close to the lashes as possible. You can also wing it if you want.

To finish off the eyes, take the Bourjois Ultra Care mascara and apply 1-2 coats, brushing the lashes out to avoid clumps.

The Lips:

For this look, I’ve kept the lips really simple. I started off by prepping my lips with Vaseline to make them smooth and soft. Of course, you can leave them like this but if you would like a hint of colour, add a touch of the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait and you’re good to go!
